It was during the week of the 2013 elections when strikes (bandhs) enforced a week-long driving ban in the city. By the end of the week Kathmandu was unusually clear of pollution. The Karnali is Nepal's biggest and wildest river to tackle on week-long rafting expeditions. I had to develop a technique of using toe-straps while facing backwards in the front of the raft so I could have both hands on the camera while going through the rapids. Of course I never knew what was coming, I just had the expressions on their faces to go by. I knew when trouble was coming. That together with using the camera while housed in an underwater case made this assignment more than challenging.
